Students and staff share ‘first day reflections’

By Amanda Crowl, The Panther Press

Students and staff returned to the building today after an epic 179 day break that resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic. It was the first day with the new mask mandate, and we took a moment to collect some first day reflections by asking, “What would you want our community to know about your first day back?”

Mr. Justin Hayes, social studies teacher

“I would say that the first day has gone better than expected. My anxiety today was at a 10 and probably only needed to be about a 5. It’s wonderful to be back in some form of normalcy. It’s great seeing the students again, even if we can’t see their faces.”

Blake Boylan, grade 10

“It hasn’t been that great because of the mask making it hard to breathe. I had my first day at the career center in the auto shop, and it was all right.”

Brady Greco, grade 10

“Overall, it’s been a good day. The mask is kind of annoying, but it’s been pretty stress free.”

Camryn Harakal, grade 7

“My day has been stressful, but it’s also been really exciting, and it takes a lot of adjusting, too.”

Cassidy Boylan, grade 12

“It’s been a last first day to remember.”

Mrs. Kathy Woods, math teacher

“It’s been different than any other I’ve had in the 30 plus years I’ve been teaching, and I’m excited to be here.”

Melissa Clayton, grade 11

“It’s pretty chill but kind of confusing having everything with COVID.”

Braiden Deross, grade 9

“I was pretty excited to come back. It’s been hard because I have to wear this mask all the time, and it’s hot.”
