Animated films flood theaters in 2024

by Isaak Bavas, Staff Writer

The year 2024 seems like it’s gonna be a strong year for animated films. 2023 was a pretty disappointing year with not just animated but live action films as well, and people have hope that this year will be able to make up for those films. Most of this year’s movies look like a lot more effort and care were put into them and not just made as a cash grab… but not all of them.

Overall, this year’s movies look at least enjoyable and fun. Some of these include…

“Inside Out 2”

“Inside Out 2” is the much anticipated sequel to Pixar’s “Inside out,” set to hit theaters June 14, 2024. It’s a coming of age story about a teenage girl named Riley going through puberty. The movie goes over the emotion teenagers commonly feel at this age and is most likely about how they may affect your life. The new emotions include Anxiety, Ennui (another word for “boredom”), Embarrassment, and Envy. Considering Riley is now a teenager, these emotions are very fitting and relatable to most kids that are going through the same changes and shifts in emotion during puberty. Overall, this movie looks like it’s gonna be phenomenal and a great watch.

“Elio”

“Elio” is a much anticipated Pixar film that has been in the works for quite some time now, and it’s finally ready to release. What makes this film so good is the fact that it’s an original idea that doesn’t take inspiration from any books or movies. The movie follows a boy who is abducted by aliens that are in search of Earth’s leader. After being threatened with a memory wipe when saying he wasn’t the leader of earth, Elio convinced the aliens that he was Earth’s leader. The movie sounds really fun and will definitely be a good film to enjoy with your family.

“The Garfield Movie”

Garfield finally got the feature-length animated film he deserves. We’ve been waiting to see when his presence would find another apprentice in modern times because Garfield’s popularity has died off quite a bit. But he’s back with an origin and new lore. The movie introduces Garfield’s dad and what he’s like. His father gets Garfield to go miles from home, and the movie is based around them getting back. Not much about the movie has been revealed yet, but it’s definitely gonna be an enjoyable film.

Some other movies coming out this year include:

  • A 3D remastered version of “Coraline”
  • A fourth “Kung Fu Panda” movie
  • A “Megamind” sequel released on peacock
  • A Netflix original film titled “Orion and the Dark”
  • A sequel to “Moana”
  • A new Dreamworks projects titled “The Wild Robot”

Overall, this is gonna be a great year for not just animated films. Considering that the year just started, many more movies are in the works and/or getting ready to be released, so stay tuned for this year’s upcoming films.
